Theories of Truth

"Consider Pascal's reason for believing in God : the consequences of not so believing if one turns out to be wrong are horrendous, eternity in hell, but the consequences of believing in God if there is not one are minor. Part of the reason we have a concept of truth is to allow us to say, Pascal has a pragmatic reason to believe in God, but it gives him no justification for thinking 'God exists' is true." (Kirkham, 52)
